Turbo powered nor-easters, midges and mosquitos were making sitting outside and enjoying this beautiful location difficult at times. We began with the idea of a screened room, and added a glazed windbreak and shady enclosure providing year round use and enjoyment. The additional room became enclosed but kept a language of external materials used throughout to emphasise its location: perched on the edge of an old quarry looking out over an estuarine river mouth to Bass point beyond. The planks are sustainably milled Macrocarpa (cypress). A new carport was built at the front, which gives a diffuse glow when the sun shines.
Barnacle Studio practices in the land of the Wodi Wodi peoples of the Dharawal nation. We acknowledge the traditional (first custodians) of this country where our projects are made, and where these materials come from. We recognise their continued connection to land and waters, culture, past, present and future generations.
