The first stage brief was to create an outdoor room that could be used year round. We chose to open up the side of the house, with a family of decks, a slightly twisted shelter and a wall of open-able doors. This project is essentially a compilation of lots of recycled 4x2, 4x3, 4x1, 3x1, 5x1.5, 6x2 and rafters milled from a fallen tree locally at Foxground. A wall-less room for when you don’t want to be inside.
The second stage of the project (2019) was to the connect the living area to the kitchen and deck, to access northern sun and resolve bedrooms so that everyone was catered for.
Barnacle Studio practices in the land of the Wodi Wodi peoples of the Dharawal nation. We acknowledge the traditional (first custodians) of this country where our projects are made, and where these materials come from. We recognise their continued connection to land and waters, culture, past, present and future generations.
